About the Author

Chris Myers

Writer, Speaker, Lover of Hats!

I was born with clubbed feet in Oceanside, California, and christened in the nearby Catholic Mission, San Luis Rey. My journey of faith was sparked by my devout Catholic grandmother, Antoinette, who inspired my young heart to grow closer to God. Artistic family members inspired me to draw, paint, and plant flowers, all while observing the beauty all around me. Tumultuous years of the Vietnam War wreaked havoc on my formation as a boy and a son, largely due to my father’s absence; a Major in the Marine Corps stationed elsewhere during those critical years. Despite the resulting deep inner trauma, my faith bolstered my imagination and spirit. I continued to look for the positive and beautiful.

In a chance visit to a Baptist Church in Ocean City, Maryland, where we had settled, I heard that God knew every hair that was on my head, every grain of sand on the beach, and that Jesus died for every soul that has been, is now, and would be in the future. My God has to
be this big
, I thought. And if Jesus died for me, then I have to accept him, reject sin, and turn to his ways.

Obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Landscape Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design was foundational to my creative career. I relocated to Los Angeles for a nonprofit. Another chance meeting at the Vineyard Church in Santa Monica, with a Disney
Imagineer, redirected my path to Paris for the Paris Disney project. First, as a landscape designer and then as a set designer. Next, Universal Creative, home of Universal Studios theme parks, hired me as an Art Director to work on Seuss Landing, where I relished the writings of Dr. Seuss (the pseudonym of Theodore Geisel) and brought them to life with Senior Creative Wes Cook. I left Los Angeles as a Senior Art Director to return to the East Coast, where I started one of the handful of creative businesses I would operate. CMM Creative, a visual marketing studio, created story-led interactive environments for The Walt Disney Company, News Corporation, and TV Guide. Just Terraces, a lavish outdoor design studio, designed, built, and maintained over 100 rooftop spaces in New York City. And Temple Vines, blended bespoke design with charitable services to The Salvation Army and The Arc.

My spiritual self began to emerge in the everyday tasks and adventures of my work life. I had learned to inspire guests using design. But writing was my passion, and I started to inspire others with words and story, not just at work, but also in prayer groups and at church. As I did this, God began to rid me of the awful disease of self-hatred and worthlessness.

I moved to Summer Haven, Florida, and wrote about my experiences traveling for a year led by the Holy Spirit throughout Florida. This journey further grew me as a writer and minister

In 2024, I earned a Master of Arts in Practical Theology from New Covenant University. And, in 2025, I received an honorary Doctorate in Theology, also from NCU.

I now live on St Simons Island, Georgia, where I facilitate workshops using the exercises from my book The Power of Journaling: Opening the Door of Your Heart.

If you’d like to see more of my creative world beyond books, visit my other website! There you’ll find my art and illustrations, personal blogs, and snapshots from the places I’ve traveled. It’s a space where stories meet color and adventure, and I’d love to share it with you.

About Faith and Engaging With God.

Treasure is a profound discovery as well as a rich cache of great value. Something beyond toiling for a paycheck that brings a financial windfall, like an unexpected check in the mail, isn’t a treasure. Treasure to me includes discovery that profoundly changes me. When I wrote my thesis for my Master of Arts in Practical Theology, God revealed the profound intersection of place and circumstance. For example, Moses’s discovery by Pharaoh’s daughter and later Moses in the desert with the burning bush. The reality of your everyday circumstances can also be seen as divine, because in them God awaits your submission, your requests, and your obedience—to surrender and engage with his plan for you. My thesis title is, Discovering Your Treasure: How God uses Place and Circumstance to Engage with His People.

Only money and its influence can obliterate our Godly treasure, to become an idolatrous and rebellious treasure. In other words, as Jesus told us, wherever your treasure is, that is where your heart is. (Matthew 6:21) And you cannot serve two masters; either Money or God. (Luke 16:13)

Money is meant to be used to grow God’s kingdom and serve others, not make us immune from difficulties or avoid the paths God has intended for us.

If you are going through a seemingly impossible circumstance and want to pray together, please let me know.

Perhaps a better, more direct question is, Who is our Savior? What does a Savior do? He saves. From what? From sin and death to victory and eternal life. Who is this Savior? Jesus Christ, the One and Only Savior who brings all the world that calls on his name to his Father, Abba, Dad, God of All.

John 3:16 is the anchor, the bedrock of my salvation: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes upon Him, will not perish but receive eternal life.”

The term Christian was first used to describe those who believed in Jesus’ teachings and followed him. Were they perfect? No way! But Jesus was their master; they wanted his love and teachings to be a part of their lives. And he said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood, you have no life in you.” (John 6:53)

Since I was a toddler, in casts from being born with clubbed feet, I loved engaging with strangers. God gave me a supernatural confidence to speak with nearly anyone. I love hearing others share their heart—not their opinions or their prejudices or their politics. I find that when I travel, people are more open because they recognize I’m not familiar. I don’t fit into their everyday experiences. It could be our language differences, how I look, my dress, or any other number of ways people discern differences. But, out of those recognized differences, I am able to engage in a way that is different from what they normally experience. I, too, open up more than I normally would in the day-to-day of my routines.

About Faith and Engaging With God.

Peace. Peace is our most vital resource. My mom would often ask when confronted with a decision, “Does it bring you peace?” The Bible says in James 3:17 that wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful. My mom is on to something, that a wise decision will bring your heart and mind peace. I’ve gone my way for so long, doing what I felt others wanted me to do, that knowing God’s will for me amidst my daily circumstances, radically quiets the temptation to rush past peace’s safety. Peace is also a fruit of the Spirit! We know that we are walking with the Spirit when we have peace. It’s important to differentiate between worldly peace, which is détente, or a lessening of strain, and God’s peace. I like this AI definition on Google: “Biblical peace, often referred to by the Hebrew word shalom, is more than just the absence of conflict; it’s a state of wholeness, well-being, and right relationships with God, oneself, and others. It encompasses harmony, prosperity, and a deep sense of security and contentment, even amidst difficult circumstances.”
