ARISE has been as short as one hour for an online gathering with seven participants. While it was effective in inspiring engagement with God, it lacked the appropriate pace that allows for participation among participants and deeper sharing of insights from the facilitator.
Two hours is the suggested minimum for a class of twenty-five or more, and that is not ideal. A three-hour morning or afternoon gathering is recommended.
Ending with a meal is also a fabulous experience that allows for the further deepening of what has been experienced in fellowship with others.
Yes. These exercises are the same, but without the facilitator’s grasp of the individual or the group dynamic. In other words, the exercises in the book are meant to be an inspiration to begin engaging with God’s Spirit on your own. They have tremendous value in their simplicity. The difference is that experiencing them alone doesn’t have the same dynamic as in a group.
Going through the exercises with a group, such as a Bible Study or a Book Club, is a helpful method to welcome God’s presence and express a deeper sharing of what He’s doing for the individuals in the group.
Breaking out of your journalers’ comfort zone, ask the Lord if you are meant to be a facilitator for ARISE wherever you live or serve.
Chris has facilitated online, in assisted-living and independent-living homes, churches, and high school classes (off campus). The possible venues are endless. What matters is that there is an open door; a welcome to come and share. God does the rest!
Chris and his church, Wesley Church at Frederica on St Simons Island in Georgia, want to offer training for those who earnestly desire to facilitate. We want to equip you. Please be in touch if that’s you!
Christians who are passionate about their Lord Jesus Christ, Abba Father, and Holy Spirit, and long to grow in intimacy with God with themselves and others. Journaling is also an essential qualification.
No. BUT, the principles, exercises, and indeed the intimacy with God are based on having a living relationship with Jesus. Attendees will benefit from their relationship with Christ because of His power and authority over their lives. When we engage with God, this is the core relationship we draw and build on.
The invitation to know Christ personally is available 24/7 through Jesus’ own words: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
